www.civilnetizen.com is a P2P system (which avoids the P2P nomenclatura that has been so tainted of late) that includes in its FAQ the question: "How do you guys make money?". It used to be the case that companies would look after their own finances and if they screwed up, well... score one for the customer! However, with our collective knowledge of garage developers launching the 'next big thing' in droves (just look at the explosion of shared online video sites) and then failing to gain any significant market share, the customer now worries about their investment in learning curve and attention time, as well as the product itself. We are increasingly aware of the value of our attention.
